GENERAL SUMMARY:

Operates nuclear detection and imaging equipment and prepares radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear radiologic studies, following professional and departmental protocols to provide diagnostic images to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for the patient’s condition.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures for preparation of kits and IV injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing/imaging.

Assesses the appropriateness of requested exams by using pre-established guidelines to ensure that the exam is performed accurately the first time.

Operates nuclear detection, imaging, and computer processing equipment for nuclear radiologic studies by following professional, hospital, and departmental protocols to provide the Physician with diagnostic images to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for the patient’s condition.

Performs periodic quality control tests on imaging, hot lab equipment and radiopharmaceuticals by checking equipment performance and quality of agents administered in accordance with department standards to ensure the integrity of the system and patient safety.

Adheres to standards for radiation safety and for appropriate waste separation and disposal of radioactive agents by performing specific tasks mandated by the NRC in order to maintain compliance with NRC license regulations.

Demonstrates competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age-specific patient needs.

Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively instruct patients and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Certified AART; and/or NMTCB.
